NPC Event Rules
In The Eternia, encountering Non-Player Characters (NPCs) can bring various challenges and opportunities. Here are the rules for handling NPC events:
-
NPC Event Trigger: When the room event card drawn is an NPC event, follow these rules.
-
NPC Table: Depending on the current room type, refer to the specific NPC table provided to determine the NPC encountered. Each room type has its own unique set of NPCs.
-
NPC Success Rating: Each NPC has a success rating that the player must beat to succeed in their interaction. The success rating is calculated as follows:
- Cards 2 to 5: Assigned value of 1
- Cards 6 to 9: Assigned value of 2
- Cards 10 to Queen: Assigned value of 3
- Kings and Aces: Assigned value of 4
-
Player Check: To determine the player’s success, add the value of the card drawn (based on the assigned values above) to the player’s skill level. If an Ace is drawn, the player automatically passes the check.
-
Outcome Resolution:
- If the player’s total value (card value + skill level) is greater than the NPC’s success rating, the player succeeds in their interaction with the NPC. The outcome of the interaction is based on the suit of the last card drawn. Refer to the NPC table for the specific outcomes associated with each suit.
- If the player’s total value is equal to or lower than the NPC’s success rating, the player fails in their interaction. Resolve the event based on the specific NPC’s description and any penalties or challenges mentioned.
-
Narrative Freedom: Players have the freedom to create and narrate the details of their interactions with NPCs, adding depth and creativity to their gameplay experience.
Remember to refer to the specific NPC table for each room type to determine the details and descriptions of the NPCs encountered and the outcomes based on the suit of the last card drawn.
Enjoy your adventures in The Eternia and may you have successful and memorable interactions with the diverse NPCs you encounter!
